Tanzanian redux of England 1350 AD – With insights from The Wall Street Journal
I've almost finished World Without End, the last of Ken Follett's trilogy on the ficitious cathedral town of Kingsbridge in medieval England. Much of this book, written in 2007, revolves around The Plague and the reaction to it. Tanzania's official approach to Covid-19 closely resembles that of organised religion circa 1350 AD – reject masks; continue with large gatherings; and save yourself by praying for Divine Protection. Thankfully, the mortality rate of this coronavirus is a fraction of The Plague. Even so, it beggars belief that a nation of 58m would entrust their collective future to a leader who propagates such rubbish. It's worth repeating: if you think education is expensive, try ignorance. Here's the story from our partners at The Wall Street Journal. – Alec Hogg
