When will Siri and Alexa get good? – The Wall Street Journal
DUBLIN – In Star Trek, the crew can ask the computer to do almost anything – dim the lights, cook dinner, create a holographic Leonardo Da Vinci. So far, our equivalent of the omniscient and omni-capable Computer in Star Trek – the virtual assistant – is able to… play songs, make lists, and sometimes call the people we're trying to call. In other words, Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant have not yet lived up to what I imagined my first computer assistant would be able to do for me. When will these assistants reach the dizzying heights of the Star Trek universe or, at the very least, be able to play the correct version of the song I'm asking for? And what are the roadblocks to achieving that nirvana? – Felicity Duncan
