The Democratic Alliance’s Constitutional Court victory restoring citizenship for dual nationals has ignited powerful reactions across the BizNews community. From praise for the DA’s persistence to outrage at ANC ministers, the ruling is being hailed as a major legal and moral win. Personal stories of struggle and exclusion emerged, reinforcing the emotional weight of this win for thousands of South Africans at home and abroad. Here's how the BizNews tribe responded.
The community highlights the DA's recent achievements
The community praised the DA for also taking the Employment Equity regulation matter to court.
"That’s the second emphatic victory for the DA in the courts in as many weeks, and the third matter being the Employment Equity regulations is being heard in the high court today. Viva DA viva." - BizNews community member Craig, via the BizNews Interactive channel
The DA has had proven history in court.
"The DA has an excellent track records in the courts when it comes to challenging Government. It will be interesting to see how the ANC takes the punches - they're suckers for punishment, but they'll only take it to a point." - BizNews community member Jacques, via the BizNews Interactive channel
The GNU
The community mentioned the ignorance of the ANC in the GNU - and how the courts are the more viable option to ensure other parties are heard.
"If the ANC won’t listen to their GNU partners in govt, they will hear it loud and clear from the courts." - BizNews community member Craig, via the BizNews Interactive channel
A personal win
One tribe member shared a heartfelt story that points out the true impact of the DA's Constitutional Court win. Many other South Africans, no doubt, feel the same amount of gratitude as him.
"Not going to delve into too much detail, but just wanted to highlight that about 5 years ago my baby daughter at the time was effectively rendered Stateless (and in a foreign country) because of this absolutely K@K and most sickening policy that prevailed on the day. I was in the fortunate position where I was (and still am) a corporate lawyer and could easily navigate my way around the Govt and system of the day, and was also fortunate to have the resources to do so. I won ultimately, but it was a singular win, while I know (many, many, many) other LEGITIMATE SOUTH AFRICANS were left languishing in the wilderness, so to speak, for years and years on end, and with devastating consequences. WELL DONE DA FOR GETTING THIS DONE! FIVE STARS FOR YOU TODAY! " - BizNews community member John, via the BizNews Interactive channel
The Constitutional Court’s ruling not only marks a significant legal triumph but has clearly struck a deep chord within the BizNews community. From legal victories to personal vindication, the response underscores the emotional, political, and social significance of restored citizenship for thousands.
