The group navigated a challenging operating environment marked by muted rand Platinum Group Metal (PGM) prices and operational disruptions. Despite these headwinds, the Group achieved improved free cash flows and maintained a strong balance sheet.Financial performance highlights Implats generated EBITDA of R9.9 billion with an EBITDA margin of 12% in FY2025, a decrease from R12.4 billion in the prior year. Headline earnings declined by 70% to R732 million, or 82 cents per share (cps), compared to R2.4 billion or 269 cps in FY2024. Basic earnings, however, improved significantly to R761 million, or 85 cps, from a loss of R17.3 billion or 1,929 cps in the prior comparable period, which was impacted by substantial impairment charges.The Group recorded a free cash inflow of R2.4 billion for FY2025, a notable improvement from an outflow of R3.954 billion in the prior period. Implats closed the period with an adjusted net cash balance of R8.1 billion and a robust liquidity headroom of R19.7 billion.Revenue for FY2025 was R85.5 billion, a 1% decrease from R86.4 billion in FY2024. This was primarily due to lower sales volumes, despite a 3% increase in dollar revenue per 6E ounce sold to US$1,389, as the benefit of higher dollar PGM prices was offset by a strengthening Rand. Rand revenue per 6E ounce remained flat at R25,172. Stock-adjusted Group 6E unit costs increased by 7% to R22,491 per ounce. Lower production volumes negatively impacted this increase, the expensing of capital at Impala Canada, and ex gratia employee payments, though it benefited from easing input inflation and Rand appreciation.Consolidated Group capital expenditure was significantly reduced by 50% to R7.0 billion (from R14.0 billion in FY2024), reflecting careful planning in response to the weak PGM price environment. Investments were directed towards enhancing safety, improving operational efficiency, and preserving infrastructure integrity..Dividend declaration The board declared a final gross cash dividend of 165 cents per ordinary share, amounting to R1.5 billion, to be paid from retained earnings. This represents an approximately 60% allocation of adjusted free cash flow generated in FY2025 to shareholder returns, exceeding the minimum target of 30%.Operational Performance Group 6E production decreased by 3% to 3.55 million ounces. Refined and saleable 6E production remained stable at 3.37 million ounces. Sales volumes retraced 2% to 3.37 million ounces. The Group faced challenges, including unplanned furnace maintenance, utility supply disruptions, and weather-related incidents at its refineries. These affected its ability to meet planned refined and sales volumes, increasing excess in-process inventory to approximately 420,000 6E ounces.Notable operational milestones included commissioning a 38MW smelter and a 35MW solar power plant at Zimplats. Upgrades were also completed at Impala Rustenburg's flash dryer and Impala Refineries' base metals refinery (BMR)..Safety and sustainability Implats reaffirmed its commitment to a safety-first culture, driven by an eight-point safety plan. Despite these efforts, the Group reported eight fatalities in seven incidents at its managed operations during FY2025. However, the fatal-injury frequency rate (FIFR) improved by 55% to 0.057/mmhw, the lost-time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) improved by 11% to 3.46/mmhw, and the total-injury frequency rate (TIFR) improved by 2% to 8.15/mmhw, reflecting an improving trend in overall safety performance.Implats achieved its fourth consecutive inclusion in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook (2025). No major or significant environmental incidents were reported. The Group remains committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and is progressing towards an interim target of a 30% reduction in carbon emissions by FY2030 (using FY2019 as the baseline). Renewable energy agreements were concluded to supply power to the refineries, and the 45MW Phase 2A solar project at Zimplats received approval. Implats' social performance initiatives benefited over 61,000 people and supported approximately 3,700 employment opportunities, focusing on community wellbeing, education, skills development, and infrastructure enhancement.Outlook for FY2026 FY2026 began with improved performance at mining operations and greater stability across processing assets. Group production is expected to be supported by sustained momentum at Impala Rustenburg, Mimosa, and Two Rivers, with restored performance at Zimplats and improved stability at Marula. Volumes at Impala Canada will decline due to the planned cessation of commercial operations during the year.Group 6E refined and saleable production is forecast to be between 3.4 and 3.6 million ounces. Group stock-adjusted unit costs are expected to rise by 4% to 9%, between R23,500 and R24,500 per 6E ounce. Group capital expenditure is projected to be between R8 billion and R9 billion, with negligible growth capital. Refined volumes will benefit from improved processing availability due to an optimised operating strategy, enhanced maintenance protocols across Group furnaces, and the destocking of accumulated inventory, a process expected to be completed by FY2029.
