Amazon is building two new HQs – The Wall Street Journal
DUBLIN – After a competitive bidding process and several months of deliberation, Amazon has decided that instead of building HQ2, its going to build 2 HQs. Instead of building a second, flagship headquarters in one lucky city, Amazon now plans to build two new offices in two cities. Part of its motivation is anxiety about hiring. The US job market is very tight and finding a city with 50,000 spare talented and educated workers is not easy. By splitting the love between two cities, Amazon is hoping it has a better shot at finding the workers it needs. However, for many, the decision is a disappointment and suggests that the new locations won't truly be peers to the company's current Seattle HQ. Cities that offered enormous tax incentives and other benefits in the hopes of attracting a massive new operation may be frustrated to find that they'll be getting much less than they paid for. Still, even having a sizeable Amazon back office in your city is probably nothing to sneeze at. – Felicity Duncan

Amazon.com Inc. plans to split its second headquarters evenly between two locations rather than picking one city, according to a person familiar with the matter, a surprise decision that will spread the impact of a massive new office across a pair of communities.
