Mark Zuckerberg stammers as Facebook backlash grows – The Wall Street Journal

Mark Zuckerberg pushed back against calls for him to step down as chairman and said he hoped to continue working with his longtime COO Sheryl Sandberg.

EDINBURGH — Facebook entrepreneur Mark Zuckerberg is under pressure to resign from the company he founded and built into one of the world's most powerful tech giants. For the past decade, governments have allowed Facebook to operate as a publisher without being bound by rules applicable to media companies. Instead of generating its own original content, Facebook has ridden on the backs of publishers and, in the process, eroded business revenues. Facebook has taken advantage, too, of its unrivalled access to personal information about Facebook users. The public, however, has had enough of privacy breaches, with citizens in the UK and US concerned about voter manipulation. Fake news and misinformation are also turning the tide against Facebook. Signs of strain are showing, with Zuckerberg failing to get out his words in a CNN interview. – Jackie Cameron
