Alec Hogg: SA’s best and worst in a single day
I love driving my Peugeot 3008 so have been excited about our extended road trip for this week's break in my old KZN stamping ground. Just over a year old, she's a reminder that we really can enjoy the world's best here in South Africa – the Peugeot 3008 was Europe's Car of the Year in 2017.

Yesterday, however, my "Pure Joy" came off second best with a serious pothole on the R103 between Nottingham Road and Howick. This mini-donga in the middle of a high volume national road on the Midlands Meander took out the left hand tyres – front and back. With the roads in such disrepair, little wonder most in the district only drive 4x4s.
What happened next, however, was a pleasant surprise. Literally a minute after finding a safe spot for the immobile vehicle, my cell phone rang. "Are you OK?," the voice asked, "this is Tankiso from Discovery Insure – we see there has been a sudden impact on your vehicle. How can I help you?" True story.
