Dirty tricks against AstraZeneca vaccine – With insights from The Wall Street Journal

AstraZeneca PLC promised the world more vaccines, at a lower cost, than any of the more established vaccine makers, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The AstraZeneca vaccine for Covid-19, created by scientists at Oxford University, is by far the cheapest of those yet produced. It has also been approved for use by 70 countries. India, for instance, has stopped exporting the AstraZeneca vaccines made there because of domestic demand. In South Africa, an acute shortage of stock means only 207 000 health workers have been vaccinated. However, SA dumped its 1.5m AstraZeneca vaccines and rejected a lifeline of 100m vaccines because authorities swallowed what increasingly appears to have been a disinformation campaign. This superb analysis by our partners at The Wall Street Journal opens a window into the disgusting politicking and profiteering bedevilling mankind's fight against the coronavirus. – Alec Hogg
