🔒 Alec Hogg: Willem Petzer exposes anti-tax-plunder plan

While debate rages amid investment professionals whether commodities generally have entered another super cycle, it looks increasingly likely that at least some in-demand metals are headed much higher. Superb piece with lots of South African interest from our partners at The Wall Street Journal.

Willem Petzer

  • Last October I came in for flack on social media after interviewing Afrikaner activist Willem Petzer (above). His forthright views, much in evidence during that discussion, are again attracting attention. Under the appealing title of “Want to stop funding the ANC with YOUR tax money? Here’s how…” Petzer’s 18 minute YouTube video has been viewed 54 000 times in under a week. A good start, but some way from the 1.5m people he expects will sign up to the new Taxpayers Union of SA which intends using existing laws to act against central government and municipalities that Petzer says are abusing money entrusted to them. Click here to watch.

  • Although it’s still some months away, as we start thinking about working life after the coronavirus some interesting options are emerging. In the US, where over half the adults have now been fully vaccinated, there’s plenty of attention on what will replace work-from-home. This morning’s story from The Wall Street Journal offers excellent insights of the hybrid work future that awaits us. Click here to read it.
  • With SA’s municipal elections less than five months away, we should expect lots of fudging and politicising as the vote approaches. Since the days in the RDM newsroom in the 1980s, I’ve found Helen Zille to be a straight shooter. So was intrigued by her assessment of the results of 64 municipal by-elections since last November. • Big global news of the past 24 hours is a first official meeting in Geneva, on June 16, between new US president Joe Biden and the CEO of Russia Inc, Vladimir Putin. Biden will doubtless be reading this morning’s reports from France about Russia latest dirty media tricks – a blatant attempt to discredit the Pfizer vaccine by offering to pay vloggers and bloggers to spread fake news. Click here for the story from WSJ.com.
  • Over the past couple days our partners at The Wall Street Journal have raised Beijing’s ire through their sterling work uncovering credible concerns that Covid-19 leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. These efforts have doubtless influenced a confrontational approach by the US, which post-Trump is now back in World Health Organisation. It may all be for nought – for now anyway – as China is flatly refusing to allow any external investigators. If it insists on closing the book on the originals of Covid-19, there’s nothing the WHO can do about it. But the truth will out. Click here for the story.
