Hi there,
This week's  "Invest like Warren Buffett" presentations went off really well. Full houses in all three venues. And questions. Well, mostly.
Last night a gent asked me to unpack the Biznews model and explain how we intend disrupting the media industry. Fat chance. But on reflection, what the question did do was remind me how, for a decade and a half, I was obliged to answer such intrusions. Because when you run a JSE-listed company, no matter how modest, most everything about the business becomes public property. Another reminder why it's so much more fun flying under the radar.
Perhaps it was the accumulation of late nights, strange beds and early flights, but my mind blanked when another member of the audience asked what book I'm reading. More's the pity because it is among the best I've ever have had sight of – Exponential Organisations by Salim Ismail. The book is re-shaping a lot of my thinking and is a must-read if you're keen to get a handle on the way Moore's Law is transforming many business sectors.
After three disrupted weeks it's now back to normality for me. And the underrated benefits of returning to a rhythm, of easing back into a comfort zone. Albeit temporarily.
Best
Alec
