More Springbok injury problems – Coenie answers SOS

There’ll certainly be a few changes to the Springbok team for the 3rd and decisive Test against Ireland in Port Elizabeth on Saturday. Duane Vermeulen is out with an elbow injury, which surely means Warren Whiteley will get his first start in a Bok jersey. It’s interesting that, while three fringe players have been released from the squad, Jaco Kriel is still in camp. Could he finally get a well-deserved debut? Meanwhile injuries continue to plague the pack, which has resulted in the call-up of Coenie Oosthuizen. – David O’Sullivan

Port Elizabeth – Sharks prop Coenie Oosthuizen will join the Springboks here on Wednesday as an extra front row cover following the withdrawal of Trevor Nyakane, who is struggling with an ankle injury.

The experienced Oosthuizen was called up to the Bok camp to cover the loosehead and tighthead positions.

Nyakane hurt his ankle last Saturday in the Boks’ win over Ireland in the second Test played in Johannesburg.

The 27-year-old Oosthuizen has earned 23 Springboks caps to date and recently played for the SA ‘A’ side in their two-match series against the England Saxons.

The Springboks have a training free day on Wednesday, apart from variety of #LoveRugby activations in the morning.
