Life is a journey. It takes us to places we never dreamed of….unexpectedly. I hear these stories all the time when I meet with investors from Latin America, Asia, and now Africa. When life takes a turn we can either hold on for our lives or we can anticipate the next turn and be ready. Why invest in the US for residency, now? There are a few reasons.
First, it allows you to take control of your destiny as the next turn comes. You will be the writer of your story. While changes may occur you never dreamed of, you aren’t a victim. You’re going to write your own story. And, quite frankly, that’s a great feeling! You will have your residency in the US – you, your spouse, and your children. Your children can attend school there. You and your spouse can work if you desire wherever you decide.
Second, if you were to invest in real estate in the US your money investment will be in USD. You are effectively hedging any currency risk. And, at the end of the investment term, you would be entitled to receive your investment back in USD. At that point, you may choose to reinvest it or convert it back to ZAR – most likely at a much more favourable exchange rate.
If you invest in a strong project, the downsides are really minimal. Your money would earn a small amount of interest during the term, but it would be in USD. And, as the USD strengthens it could be the best investment to make right now.
Now, is the time to invest in the US for your residency. And, who knows, you may enjoy the destination.
