Zuckerberg boosting books – promises to read 24 in 2015, first pick sold out

Mark ZuckerbergFacebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg is no Warren Buffett when it comes to reading, but he’s moving in the right direction. Zuckerberg’s new year’s resolution is to read more, and his creation of a Facebook Community page, A Year of Books, grabbed global media attention. He selected a 2013 Moises Naim book as his first read and, predictably, it sold out in double quick time. Naim, a Venezuelan exile, first achieved international recognition for his 2007 masterpiece Illicit which digs deeply into the multinational structure of organised crime. Zuckerberg is committing to read a book a fortnight. Buffett, now 84, is down from five to three – a night. Perhaps it’s all that time he spent learning to speak Mandarin (see video below). – AH

From the Associated Press:

Mark Zuckerberg is attempting to add a little more “book” to Facebook.
The Facebook founder and CEO announced on his page recently that he has vowed to read a book every other week in 2015, with an emphasis on learning about different beliefs and cultures.
Zuckerberg created a “Year in Book” page and urged his friends to join him in the project. As of Sunday afternoon, it had more than 89,000 likes.
The first book in his program, Moises Naim’s “The End of Power,” was out of stock Sunday on Amazon.com and had a sales ranking of No. 203. The book was first published in 2013.
Oprah Winfrey remains the gold standard for choosing books, though clubs have been started by “Good Morning America” and the “Today” show, among others. – SAPA-AP
