Days of Big Business pulling its punches is over.

By Alec Hogg

A number of online petitions are calling on South Africa’s admired former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to step back into the spotlight. Specifically, to replace disgraced head of the National Prosecuting Authority whose credibility is so low he is commonly referred to as “Shaun the Sheep”.

Judging by yesterday’s strongly worded statement from Business Leadership SA, the appointment of a credible crime buster to investigate State Capture can’t come soon enough. CEO Bonang Mohale is furious at the reappointment of Eskom execs Matshela Koko and Prish Govender saying it is similar to Eskom’s “illegal” redeployment of former CEO, Gupta-ally Brian Molefe.

Mohale says the news was greeted at BLSA with “great shock and utter dismay” and describes the inquiry which recommended the reappointment as a “sham”. He added this action by public enterprises minister Lynne Brown was “diabolical”, that she has failed the country and urges for her rapid replacement.

No more pulled punches from Big Business. About time.
