The Daily Insider: Anonymous targets Putin’s Kremlin et al.

The BizNews Interactive channel for Premium members was buzzing over the weekend as many voyeurs suddenly became active participants because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

I’ve never been to the Eastern European country now dominating global headlines. But I remember how Ronnie Apteker, co-founder of Internet Solutions, told me he spent lots of time in Kyiv because he reckoned the Ukrainian techies are among the best in the world.

So it was no surprise to see a post on Twitter from the global hacking collective Anonymous, perhaps in solidarity with their tech brothers, declaring cyber war on the Russian government. Their first target was the Kremlin-funded RT.com television channel; next they took down the Russian Defence Ministry’s site and Vladimir Putin’s own channel, Kremlin.ru.

A lot about this war has already opened the eyes of those stuck in a different era. Given Ukraine’s tech savvy, I’ve a feeling such awakenings have only just begun. The biggest surprise of all, however has been the old fashioned resilience and courage of the Ukrainian people, thousands of whom lined up outside army recruitment centres to defend their country. Bravo.
