Oscar Pistorius – suffering from the serious mental illness of narcissism?

Published on

Hi there,

As a journalist I've always been fascinated by body language experts. Those who explain how someone with folded arms is actually showing they're closed to outside opinions; or how liars tend to flicker their eyes to the left when answering a searching question. Body language is useful for those of us who never really know if we're being told the truth. Even better tools, though, are keeping an open mind, listening intently, observing closely and having at least a rudimentary understanding of psychology.

My colleague Marika Sboros has put those aspects and her understanding of mental health to good use in her excellent piece about Oscar Pistorius that's headlining Biznews right now. Despite only being published late in the afternoon, it was yesterday's top read story. To laymen, a narcissist might be considered a harmless individual who might look a little too often in the mirror. In the world of mental health, it's a rather serious condition. Marika has analysed The Accused quite brilliantly. After having a read of her piece, you will surely agree.
