The Rational Perspective – gathering momentum after a typically quiet start

Alec Hogg's daily video editorial, The Rational Perspective is gaining momentum after an unassuming experiment proved to be a winner.

Hi there,

The father of disruption, Harvard Professor Clayton Christensen, says the best way to launch any new idea is cheaply and under-the radar. That way you can improve it without the pressure of too much attention. Expectations are low so the product can develop at its own speed. And as you haven't invested excessively, it's easier to make a judgement call when the market doesn't react as expected.

At Biznews, we've applied this principle from the outset. So it's really exciting to see the latest of these projects, my daily video "editorial", starting to attract the kind of attention we hoped for. It has morphed from an overnight market update to The Rational Perspective. Is down from seven minutes to five. And I'm delighted after just a week, Friday's edition made it into the site's Top Five best read list.

So over the weekend we invested in a lapel microphone, following advice from my pal Clive Simpkins, SA's top communications strategist. And bought a free-standing studio light. That means Jeanette will no longer be tempted to rearrange my office with her sound-absorbing blankets and strangely placed lamps. It also means the videos should start looking more professional. Hopefully my presentation can keep pace. Please have a watch and do let me know.

Best
Alec
