How do you rate? Seven differences between amateurs and professionals
Among my inbox favourites is the Brain Food newsletter from Farnam Street, named after the road in Omaha where Warren Buffett has lived for most of his life. The latest edition features a piece outlining the difference between professionals and amateurs.
Given the purpose of Farnam Street is to help us develop a better understanding of how the world works, I'm sure they won't mind me lifting seven that are well worth reflecting on:
* Amateurs stop when they have achieved something. Professionals know that's only the start.
* Amateurs have a goal. Pros have a process.
* Amateurs think they're good at everything. Pros understand their circles of competence.
* Amateurs show up inconsistently. Pros show up every day.
* Amateurs blame others. Pros accept responsibility.
* Amateurs value isolated performance. Pros value consistency.
* Amateurs see feedback and coaching as criticism. Pros know they have weak spots and seek out thoughtful criticism.
