Scott Campbell: Kellermann left us in 2005 “to pursue own interests. We have nothing to do with him.”

As the Belvedere Ponzi scandal widens, rumours are rife about apparent kingpin Cobus Kellermann’s connections with South African companies used to shovel local savings to Mauritius. One of the names surfacing is MitonOptimal, a Cape-based multi manager with R2.2bn under administration.

Miton has been in business since 2004. CEO Scott Campbell tole me from London where he had just arrived, that Kellermann worked for company in 2005 and 2006: “He left MitonOptimal in 2007 to pursue his own interests. We have had absolutely nothing to do with him since. We have nothing to do with Clarus or Belvedere either. Kellerman is a long ago former employee and we are also watching this story unfold. ”

Campbell added: “MitonOptimal is an fsp2 in South Africa and runs a variety of local collective investment schemes, mandates and institutional consulting clients. We also have offshore funds managed by our international operations in Guernsey which are available on offshore life platforms of Old Mutual and Sanlam (glacier) in SA.”
