Elon Musk at it again – new company to defend man against the intelligent machines

By Alec Hogg

If ever there were a role model for juvenile bookworms, Elon Musk is it. The boy from Pretoria was the subject of the front page of the Wall Street Journal yesterday after news surfaced of his latest venture, a new age medical research company called Neuralink.

Musk’s new neuroscience company, which has been hiring some of the top people in its field, is working on an implant into the skull. This will enable the brain to reach higher levels of functioning and serve as a defence for humans against artificially intelligent machines. The “direct cortical interface” will also attack brain disorders like epilepsy and major depression, a market worth billions.

The share price of Musk’s electric car company Tesla has been on fire since he announced plans to upscale production of its new affordable Model 3 to a hefty 10,000 a week by the end of next year. And his SpaceX continues to revolutionise the sector once dominated by NASA.

It’s true that if you want something done, give it to a busy person. But the 45 year old, father of five Mr Musk is taking that to the extreme.
