Some fraudsters fiddle the books to fund their obsession for fast women, slow horses or the casino felt. Belvedere kingpin Cobus Kellermann’s weakness is classic cars. Especially Ferraris.

Kellermann owns at least 13 of these vehicles, worth an average of R1m a piece. There are five Ferraris among them, including the model 348 TS (right) which made it into South Africa’s mass market Sunday Times courtesy of Kellermann’s since deleted Facebook page.

Shortly after news broke of Durbanville-based Kellermann’s intimate involvement in the global Belvedere scam, an anonymous poster on Biznews (see below) came to his defence  – suggesting it was unfair to publish him pictured in a Ferrari because anyone who had a photo taken in one would post it on Facebook.

COMMENT ABOUT KELLERMANN'S CARS

We were, however, also sent a video purporting to show 13 Kellermann-owned cars kept in a warehouse in Stellenbosch. As the video and Kellermann’s ownership of the vehicles has been corroborated, the clip was included in today’s Rational Perspective which questions what exactly believe of what Kellermann and Cosgrove say in the light of the evidence that has emerged. The video suggests that sitting in a Ferrari is hardly an unusual exercise for Kellermann.

The 13 cars shown in the clip range from a humble Porsche 924 through to the R1.6m Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale. The Ferrari’s include two 355 GTS’s (worth R1.2m each, second hand); a Testarossa (R1m); and two of the model 348 TS (R800 000 each).

Until investigative journalist David Marchant of OffshoreAlert broke the story of the Belvedere scam – since confirmed in damning detail by the Guernsey FSC – Kellermann wasn’t shy to publicly share his obsession. Apart from the Ferrari pictures on Facebook, his Pintrest page (below) is also dedicated to this passion.
