I was reminded this morning of wonderful advice provided by orchestra conductor and leadership speaker Benjamin Zander. He talks of giving everyone you meet an “A” – when one does, they tend to live up to it. He also loves repeating the advice of his late father whose sunny disposition towards life stretched to the view that there was never bad weather, only inappropriate clothing. Planning ahead makes irritations rather more bearable. And South Africans need lots of that right now with Eskom load shedding part of the New Normal.
If you know where to look, planning is possible. We live in Houghton Estate in Johannesburg, so by examining the schedule City Power has drawn up for all its areas (see below) we knew the power would be out until 10:30am and uninterrupted through until 10pm. And were aware we needed to plan for the same again the following day and arrange the next week’s working schedule appropriately. Whatever else you might be annoyed at Eskom for, its communication on the outages has been as transparent as we could have asked for.
So courtesy of Eskom’s website, it’s a straight-forward process of checking when it’s your turn to help reduce the pressure on the national electricity grid. Just click on the name of your city below.
