While the UK prepares to scrap COVID jabs for healthy under 50s, SA’s “vaxxed and relaxed” campaign is bribing kids to get jabbed
On 19 July 2021 – dubbed "Freedom Day" by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson – the UK government lifted all COVID-19 restrictions – an audaciously perceived act that caused great distress for nation leaders that still clung to the unprecedented COVID restrictions. Low and behold, the UK population did not pulverise or succumb to the virus due to its government's (evidently, very sensible) decision. This week, in a sensibility sequel, the UK Health Security Agency announced that booster availability to healthy individuals under 50 will end in the UK on 12 February and free distribution of the primary two-shot series would be discontinued thereafter. Meanwhile, the nonsensical drive to get the COVID injections into as many South African arms as possible has ramped up. Last weekend, the Western Cape Government arranged for residents to be transported to vaccination sites with the oh-so-innocuous sounding Vaxi Taxi. But wait, there's more. Under the banner "vaxxed and relaxed", children over the age of 12 with parental consent were enticed to get vaccinated with the promise of automatically getting a 30-minute gaming experience in return. Whether our country will make its way from a place where this indefensibly reprehensible trickery is used to increase the vaccination rate to the place of sensibility dawning in the UK is uncertain.
