"In Mexico, about 80 people received fraudulent doses, and in Poland authorities recovered vials likely containing an antiwrinkle treatment".

Having grown up with a few kids with limbs withered by now extinct polio, I've got a healthy respect for the power of vaccinations. So I was surprised that quite a few intelligent people of my acquaintance are refusing to be vaccinated against Covid-19. These are not wild conspiracy theorists. Rather, their argument is that as most South Africans have already been infected with Covid-19, why accept the risk of being vaccinated against a virus with such a low mortality rate? They add that the Covid vaccines have also not been properly trialled, so nobody can be sure of side effects. I'm not buying the argument, but will respect their choice. Even more so after the emergence of a new risk, especially for crime-infested countries like South Africa. The global underworld is doing a roaring trade by manufacturing its own 'vaccines', favourite being the Pfizer one SA's lawmakers are betting on. Here's the expose' from our partners at The Wall Street Journal. – Alec Hogg
