The Economist: A tie-up between Honda and Nissan will not fix their problems
Honda's revival of the Prelude as a hybrid-electric car was overshadowed by talks of a merger with Nissan, creating a potential automotive giant alongside Mitsubishi. The move aims to tackle challenges from fast-moving Chinese EV rivals and market uncertainties, including potential U.S. tariffs. While shareholders of Nissan and Mitsubishi cheered, Honda's investors were cautious. Yet, merging two struggling firms may not solve the core issue: keeping pace with the industry's rapid innovation.
