The Daily Insider: Pressure on Maseko has escalated since release of Zondo’s report
At the zenith of Zupta power, very little in the way of SA's national resources were outside the clutches of those greedy immigrants from dusty Saharanpur. With billions of rand in cash, and the SA's corrupted national leader in their pockets, the Guptas seemed able to grab anything their eyes fell upon.
But there were rare exceptions, Among them public servant Themba Maseko, then CEO of the government arm which controls its R600m advertising budget. The Gupta brothers wanted that cash to prop up their struggling media operations. Maseko was instructed by president Zuma to play ball. He refused, and within months was out of a job.
Pressure on Maseko has escalated since the release of the Zondo Commission's first volume. Over the weekend he needed to use his firearm to drive off two intruders. The attempted home invasion mirrored one that played out at the home of another whistleblower, Johann van Loggerenberg.
Our colleague Michael Appel sat down with Maseko this week. The result is a gripping interview, the recording of which you'll find on BizNews this morning. Click here.
