🔒 You can skip cryptocurrencies and invest directly in cryptocurrency miners

By Felicity Duncan

Investing in cryptocurrency is not for the faint of heart – the market has shed hundreds of billions of dollars since its peak last year. But the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry is maturing, and soon investors will be able to skip Bitcoin and invest directly in Bitcoin miners and their suppliers.

Bitmain Technologies, the world’s largest designer of cryptocurrency mining equipment, is planning to launch an initial public offering in Hong Kong. Interestingly, Bitmain has chosen not to go the initial coin offering (ICO) route, instead opting for an old-fashioned IPO on an old-fashioned stock exchange. Given the preponderance of scams in the ICO market and investors’ falling appetite for digital tokens, it’s probably a sensible choice.

Bitmain’s decision to list gives investors who are interested in cryptocurrency an attractive new way to gain exposure to the asset class without taking their chances on a dodgy crypto exchange. Several other cryptocurrency miners and mining equipment makers are also planning IPOs, meaning investors will soon have a range of options for crypto exposure.
