Scientists say this is our last chance to prevent climate crisis
By Felicity Duncan
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a report on Monday saying that our window for preventing a serious climate crisis has nearly closed. With a massive amount of effort and money, we still have a shot at keeping the global rise in temperature to 1.5C (instead of the significantly more dangerous 3C rise we're headed for). But, they warn, if we continue to do nothing, we will start to see bitter consequences, from the end of coral reefs to significant sea level rises that will endanger the billions of people who live near the ocean.
I am not optimistic. In fact, with Donald Trump in the White House and Brexit in the headlights, I expect this report to be widely ignored. We've done nothing about climate change since it was identified as a problem in the 1970s. We're not going to start now.
