Mid-term results create obstacles for Trump – The Wall Street Journal
EDINBURGH — The US mid-term elections pitted two Americas together: those for and against Trump, which some would argue is the battle of globalisation vs nationalism. The Wall Street Journal has dissected the results, which produced a split congress. Republican candidates rode on Trump's coat-tails, attracting white male voters and shedding others. The Democrats picked up female voters. While Trump pronounced the mid-terms a 'tremendous success', with the Republicans taking the majority of seats in the senate, there will be obstacles in his way now that the Democrats have taken back control the House of Representatives. With disappointments and victories on both sides of the political divide, the Democrats and the Republicans are expected to re-align to attract more support next time Americans go to voting stations, is the message from the US newspaper. – Jackie Cameron
