Updated Covid-19 symptom checker – The Wall Street Journal

Scientists and public-health officials are learning more about the new coronavirus behind a continuing pandemic. The disease it causes is called Covid-19.

South Africa has been lucky, so far, in the Covid-19 pandemic. Our number of infections and the death rate is low especially if it is compared with the infection rates in Europe and the United States. It could be because we are three to four weeks behind those countries, the BCG vaccine for TB that seemingly gives us extra protection or even our warmer climate. Scientists are learning fast and are constantly updating what they now about this new virus, but there is also a lot they can't confirm yet. With most countries running behind in testing their populations; it is useful to know of symptoms we could all check for and ensure that we isolate ourselves to stop the spread of the disease. Leading ear, nose and throat specialists have issued warnings that a loss of the sense of smell and taste may be symptoms of Covid-19. The Wall Street Journal has updated its coronavirus symptom checker and apart from the symptoms that have been associated with the disease including a high fever and coughing with body aches, have added difficulty in breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain and bluish lips, to the list. – Linda van Tilburg
