Chris Gilmour: SABMiller bid for Heineken to spur its own predator into action

In days when there was still the luxury of time to do such things, I visited SABMiller’s breweries in Central Europe and later its operations in China. On both trips Chris Gilmour was among the party, displaying encyclopaedic knowledge of the business. So after last night’s surprise disclosure that SABM had made a strongly rebuffed bid for Heineken, Chris was the obvious go-to man for insight into what happens next. We started the interview with his very strong view on which way Scots should vote on Thursday. – AH
