Commentator’s curse hits Eskom, load shedding strikes back

By Stuart Lowman

Eskom CEO Phakamani Hadebe felt the full brunt of the classic commentator’s curse this week when South Africa was plunged into darkness.

No sooner than a month had passed after he said there would be no load shedding this year, stage one was implemented on the back of ‘illegal’ strikes.

And while the group had measures in place for potential coal shortages, there was no recourse for stay away employees.

Lee Child famously said that ‘”one should plan for the worst and hope for the best.”  It seems Eskom may have been a bit light on the planning and heavy on hope.
