- Famous Brands (mkt cap: R10.4bn) has tied up with Shoprite (mkt cap: R91bn) in the opening of a Debonairs Pizza outlet in Benguela, its first in Angola. Shoprite has acquired the master franchise for Angola and intends opening another six Debonairs to complement its seven existing Hungry Lion brand. The deal follows the successful pilot of a Debonairs outlet in Shoprite’s supermarket in Eldorado Park, Gauteng. The Angola opening takes the 500-strong Debonairs operation into its 14th country.
- Investec Australia Property Fund (mkt cap: R2.8bn) has bought two debt-funded properties in Sydney and Newcastle for A$26.8m at a yield of 7.9%. The properties are occupied on long-term leases by a 93 year old private steel distribution business.
- Goliath Gold Mining (mkt cap: R221m) trading update: headline loss per share to grow by between 35% and 55% for the year to end December.
