Welcome Matthew Lester (…and Cees, Clive, Marika, et al)

Hi there,

The Biznews story actually began some months before we launched last August. After slogging away at Moneyweb for a decade and a half, a return to online publishing was never certain. It all seemed, well, too hard for too little reward. Reinforced when a friend joked that his secretary earned more than me (OK, he is the CEO of a big group, but still….).

Then I re-read Jannie Mouton's book. And biographies on Steve Jobs and Warren Buffett. Visited Huffington Post in New York and studied Clayton Christensen. From all that and lots of thinking with coloured pens, a sustainable model evolved. Something inspired by Christensen with a touch of Huffington, a bit of Moneyweb, a partnership with CNBC, the best located offices in the country, lots of tap dancing, dollops of elbow grease and the most supportive spouse who ever said I Do.

Yesterday was another big day for Biznews. South Africa's favourite tax advisor and long time Sunday Times columnist, Rhodes Professor Matthew Lester, has joined our merry band. Matthew is the smart side of 50, embraces technology and possesses the enthusiasm of one half his age. He's taught himself how to put together video presentations which he uses to illustrate his excellent writing. And he loves what we're doing at Biznews.

Matthew's debut contribution is now on the site. Go have a look. And while you're there, remember you can also access Matthew's peers in economics (Cees Bruggemans), communications (Clive Simpkins) and health journalism (Marika Sboros). All that brainpower at the click of your mouse. Overlaid by a core team for whom serving our community is the centre of their existence. Little wonder that after just 10 months, we're tracking more than a million page impressions a month. And still growing fast.

Thank you for coming along for the ride.

Best,
Alec
