The ANC Youth League has released a statement around Sepp Blatter’s resignation, saying it was forced and a clear signal of the workings of a playground bully. See the statement below.
Yesterday the world listened to the moving speech by Sepp Blatter as he resigned; informing the world that his “mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody”, this was said despite him being democratically elected by the majority. The ANCYL seeks to expose the workings of the playground bully amidst us, who despite losing a vote democratically, used its political and economic muscle to push the democratically elected FIFA President to resignation.
It goes without saying that the West in the form of UEFA (European Football Federation) and their American partners preferred Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan over Sepp Blatter. And the reelection of Sepp Blatter as supported by the South block led by BRICS did not sit well with the West whose grip on global politics remains contested and is slowly slipping away by the day. True to their bullying tactics just a few days before the FIFA democratic election was to take place the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stepped into the playing field with corruption charges against seven high ranking FIFA officials, further calling for the reopening of the bids as appointed to Russia (2018) and Qatar in 2022. But this was not enough in a further attempt to push the majority into a corner to succumb, we were reminded of their financial muscle as the likes of McDonalds, Budweiser, Coca Cola and Visa; US / European owned companies threatened to withdraw their sponsorship from FIFA.
The ANCYL notes with great disgust the workings of the West who perpetually assume a big brother / playground bully status within global politics. What has transpired in FIFA over the past few days has been a clear sign of the West’s hunger for power and total control. They cannot tolerate that the World Cup was in South Africa in 2010, Brazil in 2014 and will be in Russia in 2018; BRICS countries who have successfully hosted the game, sending a clear signal of a shift within geopolitics and the entry of a new power block within the playing field. We call a red card on the West for foul play, and want to remind them that the only constant in life is change. The winds of change are blowing strongly and our commitment to BRICS remains unshaken. The days of the playground bully are numbered and if our growing economies are anything to go by, the days of our countries being on the periphery are coming get to an end. We call for the South block as led by BRICS to remain resolute leading towards the special Congress of FIFA.
