Mancunian tragedy – rationality more powerful than emotion

The suicide bomber’s obscene attack on Mancunian children has been widely condemned as the act of a sick and twisted mind. For good reason.

Here in the UK, there is a sense of outrage and disgust. And an outpouring of love towards those affected. But the measured response from officialdom also provides perspective on how far the civilised world has progressed in its war against extremists.

There is no George W Bush-like fist waving or the invention of reasons to escalate the violence. Cool heads reign. Rationality is a far stronger weapon than emotion. During a crisis and outside of it. Civilised man is learning.
