Bannon parallels with Guptas – steps in the right direction
South Africans often think it just happens to them, but the reality is we live in a time when the whole world is taking two steps forward and then one step back. Best be prepared. Because it's going to be a rocky ride.
America took one of those positive steps when the right wing hardliner Steve Bannon left the White House last week. Bannon is a fundamentalist of the worst kind who finds it easy to hate (immigrants, Moslems, China, North Korea) and has a warped idea about economics, disdaining free trade as "a radical idea."
Because of the important role he played in getting Trump elected, he was appointed as one of the most powerful of the new president's advisors. Having him within whispering distance of a maleable man with access to nuclear codes was a real and present danger to the world.
In a different way, the ANN7/New Age-owning Guptas are the Bannons of SA. It is a blessing that they are preparing their final departure. Having them out of the picture won't fix the Zuma Administration. But much like the Breitbart boss's ejection, it will be a step in the right direction.
