How you made it doesn’t seem to matter anymore – Daily Newsletter

Hi there,

Our piece about Jordan Belfort's new career took top spot on Biznews yesterday. The financial markets conman whose life was the focus of recent hit movie The Wolf of Wall Street, now earns more as a conference speaker than during his best years of peddling high commission penny stocks. Which says something about the price some people will pay to rub shoulders with infamy.

During the Berkshire Hathaway AGM earlier this month, Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger spoke at length about activist funds that are becoming increasingly popular among US investors. Neither are fans. As curmudgeonly Munger concluded: "Nobody seems to take much notice anymore of how the money was made." The fact that you're rich, it seems, is sufficient to afford respect. Judging by Belford's popularity, one could say the same about fame.

Best,

Alec
