Another blow for ill-fated Boeing 737 MAX, which has cost Comair R200m – and counting
South Africa’s Comair said the grounding of its single Boeing 737 MAX cost it $13m through September, with the grounding expected to last until at least January.
The Boeing 737 MAX has been grounded around the world following two crashes five months apart that claimed about 350 lives. South African carrier Comair has blamed the ongoing uncertainty and safety jitters around the MAX for a knock to its figures. In September, Comair said keeping its MAX craft grounded was estimated to cost about R200m. But that bill could stretch further. The Wall Street Journal reports on a US airline that has extended the day on which it plans to allow the MAX to return to service. Other airlines will be watching closely as Boeing and air-safety regulators have yet to agree on what needs to be fixed. – Jackie Cameron
