The Hawks have two new prey in their sights, both of them from prominent families: Khulubuse Zuma, nephew of President Jacob Zuma, and Zondwa Mandela, over the Aurora case, and the effective destruction of the company’s Grootvlei and Orkney mines that cost more than 5 000 workers their jobs.That’s after Pretoria High Court Judge Eberhard Bertelsmann handed down a damning judgment against Zuma, Mandela and a third director of Aurora Empowerment Systems directors, Thulani Ngubane, in which the three, as well as Aurora financial directors Solly and Fazel Bhana, have to fork out R1.7billion in damages. The Hawks are investigating possible criminal activity in issues Bertelsmann raised during his ruling. President Zuma is said to have been a ‘father figure’ to his nephew, whose father died when Khulubuse was young. – Marika Sboros
