The world is changing fast and to keep up you need local knowledge with global context.
Attending a presentation by my boss Alec Hogg in Johannesburg last night, he spoke of the business opportunities facing private education companies in South Africa.
Neither I nor Alec needs to tell you that SA’s education system is in a mess. Subsequently, companies like Curro are stepping in to fill the gap, and they’re on expansion and unbundling drives.
In just under a month, JSE listed education provider Curro and its subsidiary Stadio have snapped up another college. Apart from buying film school AFDA, Stadio will also acquire academic college SBS.
Curro, which plans to list Stadio separately, has experienced a 14% drop in the last three months in its share price, reports Fin24. But amid its buying spree and planned unbundling, it is clearly gearing up for solid future growth as public education continues to falter.
